Hawks Nest Ridge, North Dakota.

On a nice summer day, I had occasion to travel to Hawks Nest Ridge. The elevation above the general terrain at Hawks Nest is only about 300 feet (91 m). That pretty much qualifies it as a mountain in North Dakota terms. At the top of  the ridge, there are a large quantity of communications antennas and the small buildings that support the equipment tied to those antennas.

Our trip to the ridge involved doing some testing on one of the Civil Air Patrol communications repeaters, one of which is housed at the site. While our communications experts tested and determined the issue with the repeater, I took some time to capture the views from the hilltop.

The ridge, located only a few miles from Carrington North Dakota, features an undeveloped area of native grassland and pine oaks. The North Dakota Travel website mentions hiking and camping in the undeveloped area during the summer and skiing and tobogganing in the winter. As we left the site for the day, we saw a group of equestrians unloading horses from trailers and getting ready for an outing. The only other people we saw in the area were workers on other communications sites in the area.

About the photograph: It was hard to choose from the collection of photos I took that day with my Samsung S7 cellphone camera. On such a nice day, it’s hard to capture a bad photo when using today’s modern mobile device cameras. The image was downloaded to my iPad and edited. The rule for Cellpic Sunday is simple.
