While on one of our weekly hikes a few weeks ago, we happened upon a couple of trail maintenance tools sitting beside the trail. Not being trained in that particular skill, I can only assume that the pick is used to remove or modify stubborn rocks that might be a tripping hazard. I’m sure it has plenty of other uses.
At first, I was wondering about the short section of what looks like PVC pipe before I noticed it is attached to a standard rake handle that’s been shortened. I have two theories about the PVC. First that the handle broke and some old PVC presented a cheap repair. The second theory is that knowing how heavy rakes can be when they must be carried along for trail maintenance, did the owner of the tool simply replace the heavy wood handle with the much lighter PVC? After all, trail raking doesn’t require a lot of strength from the handle assembly.
About the photo: The image was captured on my Samsung S6 cellphone. I tweaked the photo using Adobe Lightroom and Luminar Flex. The rule for Cellpic Sunday is simple, the image must be captured on a mobile device.
