Cellpic Sunday – The Red Moose Emergency Tap Room

Red Moose.

Pittsboro, North Carolina.

On our trip to North Carolina in January, we visited our son and family in Pittsboro. I’ve featured some of Chatham County’s exciting places in other posts about the county seat of Chatham County. A fire truck is on display in the Red Moose Brewing Company parking lot. Though at first glance, it appears to be a current asset of the local fire department, it is an older model that is no longer in service in the manner that was intended.

Danny, the owner of the Red Moose Brewing Company, provided the following information about the 1990 Ford Custom Cab 8000 that is now an Emergency Tap Room, ready to roll on notice of thirst emergency at your party.

With my request for information, I could tell that the Emergency Tap Room project was a major goal completed for Danny. This fire engine served with the New Hope Volunteer Fire Department until September 2022. They even called on her for one last blaze, and the firefighters swear she pumped better than their brand new rig!

Danny gave this old pumper truck a new life after buying her from the department in February 2022. His backyard became the project workstation. Out came the pump, hoses, and anything non-essential to her new purpose. A custom panel went in to create a clean canvas, perfect for their logo and the “Thirst Responders” motto. The back got a major upgrade with a walk-in cooler and its own cooling unit to keep all your favorite drinks icy cold. Six taps means they can serve up a variety of options, from wine to canned beverages. And under the hood? A purring CAT 3208 turbo motor ensures this former fire engine is ready to roll to any thirsty situation!

About the photo: It was a beautiful day in January when we stopped to visit Josh’s friends at the brewery. I was attracted to the fire truck and felt it was worthy of a place in the Cellpic Sunday archive. In the background is the clock tower of the former county courthouse, now the Chatham Historical Museum. You can check out the museum from an earlier post here… but I digress.

My Samsung S23U captured the fire truck in jpeg format, and the photo needed only minor edits. After minor straightening, I sent the picture to Luminar Neo, where I removed some distracting power lines and associated power pole directly behind and above the truck. The image was ready to upload here after a minor tweak of Accent AI. You can pixel-peep the beautiful red truck in 2K HD on my Flickr site by clicking on the photo.

I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone or even a dashcam, that’s also acceptable. The second rule is to link your challenge response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment. Oh, you don’t have to post it on a Sunday.

  1. I was a career Paramedic Firefighter Lieutenant Specialist, which allowed me to officially and permanently retire at age 40. Although it was time for me to retire, I still miss the challenges and excitement of my career every single day.

    • Thank you for your service. I have a nephew who retired from service in New Mexico, then moved to Nevada and retired from service there. Nothing but respect for all first responders here.
