Red Canyon, Utah
Michelle W. presents us with a challenge that reminds us of unexpected moments. “In-between moments can be just as memorable as grand finales. This week, share a photo you took on the way to something else.” You can read the entire challenge post here.
The small gallery of images I present to you are from just such a discovery. My wife, Lynn, and I looked forward to visiting Bryce Canyon in Utah for some time. An overnight snowfall changed our plans for the day somewhat, but gave us memorable photos of the canyon at sunrise. But as you are no doubt aware, that is not the point of this week’s challenge. We would soon discover that on the way to the canyon from the west, we would pass through the Dixie National Forest and Red Canyon. The drive on highway 12 is a scenic route in its own right, especially when enhanced by a late October snow fall.
For the second week in a row, I’m late posting the weekly challenge. Yesterday we finished the three-day trek from Arizona and today we are back in North Dakota, our home for over 35 years. Yes, we could make the trip in less than three days, but we refuse to spend more than 11 hours behind the wheel on any given travel day. Be that as it may, my schedule should return to normal, and in a couple of days, I should be finished with the backlog of blog posts awaiting me in the reader. I look forward to seeing all of your challenge responses as well.
I submit for your evaluation a small gallery of images taken “On the Way” to Bryce Canyon. Click on an image to enlarge it and to scroll through the gallery. If you’d like to see the images posted from our sunrise visit to Bryce Canyon, click here.

Again, John, you are tapping into my memories! I have been here, too. And, as I recall, it was snowing then.
The snowfall was another unexpected bonus… usually I don’t use the word ‘bonus’ when mentioning snowfall. 🙂
As I recall, me and the ex were going through this area driving a 36 foot RV!
One of my favorite parks, John, and your images are fantastic. I’ve never seen it with snowfall and it’s gorgeous. Great shots.
Thank you, Jane. My first visit to the park and I lucked out with the snowfall.
Very beautiful shots John!!
I appreciate that, Tina, knowing the subject is what is truly beautiful.
what an awesome place ! 😎
Indeed. In many ways, I was as impressed with Red Canyon as I was with Bryce.
Beautiful shots, especially with the snow.
Beautiful views on the way. I am sure the destination was breathtaking. 🙂
It was indeed. Thanks for the comment.
