This week, Patti Mode reminds us of that old saying usually associated with weddings. The superstition is that good luck will come of the marriage with the inclusion of something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. She challenges us to share images that relate to the saying. You can read her entire challenge post here. I will start off with a sad note, the death of someone from a few centuries ago. One of the fascinating things about older cities in the New World, in this case, Boston Massachusetts, is the history that can be found in the old cemeteries in the center of the city. Most of these cemeteries were filled by the 18th century, some even earlier than that. I leave it to you to reflect upon the life and times of Mehetabel Welcom, wife of Peter Welcom who passed into history in October 1694.
For something new, we look ahead several centuries to April 1, 2019 at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The pitcher in the picture was brand new at the time the image was captured. The artisan was just putting the finishing touches on the still-warm glass. Using a shaping tool, he is creating the pour spout. Soon it will cool and be ready for sale.
For something borrowed, I feature a young couple in Baltimore, Maryland. They have just rented (borrowed for the purposes of this post) two Lime scooters. These scooters are found all over town. They are electric and can be rented by anyone who downloads an app to their smart phone. Scanning a barcode on the scooter from the app will unlock the scooter for $1. The borrower can then use the scooter for 24 cents per minute. The company knows where all the scooters are located and the condition of the batteries because they are GPS enabled. On a regular basis, they pick up the scooters with exhausted batteries to be recharged and leave freshly charged scooters in hub areas around the city. The business is competitive with at least three different companies providing scooters. Even Uber is in on the action with their Jump scooters.
For something blue, I found these beautiful Macaws at the Wildlife World Zoo in Litchfield Park, Arizona. Technically, they are blue and gold Macaws, but for the sake of this challenge, they would certainly suffice as “something blue.” Thanks to Patti for coming up with another interesting photo challenge this week.

They have had a lot of problems with those scooters here… Well not really problems, but the cities want a slice of that cheese and have charged the companies providing the scooters with so many fees associated with them that the scooter companies declared it not worth it. Just like that they picked up their scooters and moved to a state with less discriminating tax theory. LOL
Yeah, I heard that as well from some of the folks at the conference I was attending. Everyone wants a piece of the pie.
All terrific choices John but the blue birds are absolutely perfect!!
Thank you!
Great choices for this theme, John! Two lovely blue birds. 🙂
