Gila Bend, Arizona.

Southwest of the small town of Gila Bend, a 12-mile long (19 km) mountain range that is easily accessible from I-8 on a paved road named Painted Rock Road. This photo of one of the peaks was captured about 10 miles (16 km) from exit 102. The distinctive color of this range is definitely different from the other nearby ranges. I’m sure a geologist could tell you why. I can just say that I enjoyed the sight of more brightly colored mountain views.

This image was captured at the turnoff to the Painted Rock Petroglyph Site, an ancient archaeological place containing hundreds of symbolic and artistic rock etchings produced by ancient residents of the Gila Valley. In a future Travel Tuesday, expect a visit to the site along with a gallery of photos.

About the photo: This image was captured with my Samsung S7 on a day with thin cloud layers. That helped to generate a softer look than it might have been had it been a day in full sun. The image was processed in Lightroom and Luminar 3. In most browsers, you can click on the image to enlarge it.
