Cellpic Sunday – Falls Park

Falls Park.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Sioux Falls derives its name from a series of cascades along the course of the Big Sioux River as it meanders through the urban area. Just a brief stroll from the city center, the river descends approximately 100 feet (30 m) in elevation. Ever since the city was established in 1856, these waterfalls have served as a magnet for both economic activities and leisure pursuits. Today, transformed into a park, the city has allocated 123 acres of land to be relished by both locals and tourists. If you’d like to see the original post about the park and view that gallery of images, you will find it here.

About the photo: After a failed hard drive on my main computer and all of the attendant hassles in restoration (thank God for consistent backups), I am starting a project of reworking some of my older photos for Cellpic Sunday. I am not repeating any photo previously posted in Cellpic Sunday, though, like this one, I posted the original edit in a Travel Tuesday post.

The image was captured in 2017 using my Samsung S7 cell phone. I originally processed the photo using Luminar 2018. On this trip through the computer, the image was reworked in Luminar Neo. It didn’t need much tweaking. I changed the format to a square crop and tweaked the black and white levels then I used Enhance AI to bring out what little blue there was in the mostly cloudy sky.

Original panoramic edit.

The original image, created from two cell pics, was a panorama to show more of the park. The square format focuses more on the falls. Let me know in the comments which of the two images you prefer.

I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone or even a dashcam, that’s acceptable as well. The second rule is to link your challenge response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment. Oh, and, you don’t have to post it on a Sunday.

  1. I love the falls, John. With the green in between, they are stunning. I’m amazed how you combined the two photos. They look like they’ve always been that way.
