As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
— John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Veterans Day became a legal holiday to honor the end of World War I. Originally known as Armistice Day, November 11, 1918 was the official end of WWI. Signed into law in 1938, the legal holiday honored those veterans who served.
After World War II and the Korean War, the U.S. Congress amended the original act by substituting the word “Veterans” for “Armistice”. Memorial Day honors those who died in service to their country. Veterans Day honors living veterans, those who served or continue to serve in war and in peacetime.
Thank a veteran today for their service.
