Cellpic Sunday – 4 February 2018

Somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean.

Today’s Cellpic Sunday is being posted later than usual. Yesterday evening, well past our normal bedtime, we arrived home from a week’s stay on the Carnival Magic where we spent a week with several family members on a cruise organized by one of my nephews. For the next few Cellpic Sundays, you can expect to see some of the images I captured on our journey through the Eastern Caribbean islands. In future weeks, as I have time to process them, I’ll be sharing the journey in HDR (high dynamic range) images.

About the photo: I am an early riser, most days I was awake and on the Lido Deck before dawn, either reading or otherwise preparing for the day’s activities. They keep the coffee on 24/7 and I helped myself to at least one cup prior to getting the day’s activities underway. This image was actually captured late in the day, we were walking by an empty table that had two almost empty cups sitting at the table edge awaiting pickup by the wait staff. I sat down, put one of the cups in front of me and the other in front of the opposite window chair and composed the image on my Samsung S6 cellphone. I used the camera’s ability to selective focus to put the background into soft focus. Though it was captured in the late afternoon, the image recalls my pre-dawn mornings and the eventual arrival of the day. The rule for Cellpic Sunday is simple, the image must be captured on a mobile device. On most browsers, you can click on an image to enlarge it for a higher resolution view.
