Cellpic Sunday – 26 December 2021

Clarkston, Washington.

On the Washington, Idaho border are the twin cities of Clarkston Washington, and Lewiston Idaho. Obviously, these communities were named after the explorers who arrived at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake Rivers where the two cities eventually developed. We spent an overnight stop at Clarkston in preparation for a boat trip down Hells Canyon on the Snake River. Expect a future Travel Tuesday for images from that excursion.

The eastern region of Washington is known as the Palouse, long celebrated as a hilly agricultural area that is extremely photogenic in the spring and summer. Arriving as we did during October, the greens of summer have disappeared from those rolling hills leaving a less colorful, but no less beautiful landscape.

About the photo: I am an early riser and at 7:05 in the morning, I was out on the balcony of our hotel looking north at the hills, the Snake River, and the golf driving range visible from our hotel room. I captured two images with my Samsung S20U, loaded them into Lightroom to merge them into a single panoramic image, then sent it off to Luminar AI for improvements in structure and detail. Click on the image to pixel peep or check out the metadata in 2K HD on my Flickr site.

I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone, that’s acceptable as well. The second rule is to link your challenge response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment.

  1. The phone’s JPG internal processing is so good, I seldom use the RAW file mode that it’s capable of generating. Other than basic edits like cropping and exposure tweaks, little adjustment is required in post production.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    • Those golden hour mornings make for great photos even with a cell phone camera. 🙂
I’ve seen the Palouse in autumn twice now. Next time, I’d like to see those hills green in the summer.
      Thanks!
