Cellpic Sunday – 29 December 2019

“What a wonderful thought that it is some of the best days of our lives haven’t even happened yet.” – Anne Frank

Let me start off this week that begins a new year and a new decade with a wish to all my readers that the best days of your lives have yet to happen.

As this is being written, we are scheduled to fly back to Arizona tomorrow. It may not happen. A weather alert for the region promises at least a two-day storm with heavy snow, strong winds and North Dakota’s usual winter mix of yuck. With any luck, this post will publish the day after we touch down in Arizona. We shall see. 🙂

About the photo: This is Boler Park, a favorite place for me to practice flight training maneuvers with my drone. Of course, the drone is packed away as the batteries and the iPad both like cold weather less than I do. The row of large evergreens hide the view of an apartment/condo complex just to the south of the park. A snowfall the night before added “flocking” to the trees and I couldn’t resist taking the photo with my Samsung S7 cell phone while parked across the street. A few weeks ago, I received an upgrade to Luminar. The latest version, Luminar 4 has a great tool for replacing dull and dreary skies. The dull gray sky in the original image made the photo an ideal subject for trying their Sky Replacement Tool. That partly cloudy blue sky is one of several provided in the Luminar package. It also has the ability to import sky images of your own making. If I decide to use this feature much, I will have to begin gathering a collection of skies so that at least I can say the photo is my own work in its entirety. Other tweaks were completed in Adobe Lightroom as well. The rule for Cellpic Sunday is that the image must be captured with a mobile device.

In a few weeks, once I’ve had time to learn the program’s new features, I’ll provide a mini-review of Luminar 4.

Happy New Year!

  1. This reminds me of several tree lines I see at Minot AFB – when there is a snow or that lovely frost-that-covers-everything. Lovely pic, John.
