Mount Evans, Colorado.
In March 2022, I shared images of the highest paved road in North America, the road to the summit of Mount Evans. You can read about that scenic drive here. On that drive, I used my Nikon for most images, but knowing I always need images for the Cellpic Sunday challenge, I captured a few images from my cell phone.
That highway, (which is typically open from Memorial Day to Labor Day), climbs to 14,260 feet (4,346 m) in elevation and you will pass a couple of lakes on the way up. As you can see in the photo above, Echo Lake parallels the highway. It is close to the park’s entrance station, and you can stop there to fish or simply enjoy the lake on a warm summer day. On our way to the peak, we stopped at a pull-off and I captured this image of the lake from above.
About the photo: Captured on my Samsung S20U, the hazy day presented a challenge for the camera. Using the haze filter in Adobe Lightroom helped to make those ridges in the background a bit clearer, and Luminar Neo’s AI function helped to add some contrast and punch to the fore- and mid-grounds of the image.
I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone or even a dashcam, that’s acceptable as well. The second rule is to link your challenge response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment.

Even though it is Echo Lake, I couldn’t helping singing this
Great landscape John 🙂
I had to listen to it! I’m not familiar with this group. I am more of a1970’s music guy. 🙂
Echo Beach was released in 1980 so just missed your time cut-off
A lovely capture of the beautiful landscape of Colorado. 😊👏
Thanks, Pepper!
That’s a stunning view! I remember your earlier post about this drive and thinking it’s a road I would love to explore one day!
It is an enjoyable drive to the top, if you don’t mind that near the top, it’s quite narrow.
I don’t mind – my husband will be driving 😆
I really like the varying shades of blue in the mountains in the distance.
There was a lot of haze that day, and I even toned the blue down a bit in the image.
Beautifully captured cellpic!
Thanks, Hien!
Beautiful scenery and color tone.
Thank you!

This is such a mesmerizing view, John. The highway’s presence among those mountains looks so surreal. Very lovely 🙂
Sometimes haze works to a photographer’s advantage! 🙂
Beautiful capture…from top to bottom John.
The lake looks so tiny in the landscape.
The lake is larger than it looks from this vantage point. The landscape is so big on the mountain!
Thank you for this magnificent view.
I love it.

I had to check the map for where this lake is, … Colorado, darn a little too far for a quick road trip! Sure looks beautiful, nice job editing, John. My Sunday Stills theme this week is “under construction,” which for some reason, tends to attract the men bloggers/photographers, perhaps one from you if you’re so inclined? https://secondwindleisure.com/2022/08/28/sunday-stills-under-construction/
Just thinking, I don’t have many images of building projects. I’ll have to check my gallery to see what I can find. I know I took some images of construction on I-10 in Arizona for my grandson.
Hope you find something!
Beautiful area! I love the mountain ranges in the background!
It is, indeed, a photographer’s dream location.
I can imagine that.

[…] Hi all 😃 This is my latest post for John’s Cellpic Sunday. […]
There’s a beautiful light in the middle distance in your photo. Is that due to the AI in your Samsung, or the one in Luminar?
I’m late to the party again, but here are my two bits:
Thanks. The original image was more muted. That was Luminar’s AI.

John, I agree with one of your readers that the view looks dreamy thanks to the haze. Your processing is beautiful. I’ll have to look up the location. We used to live in Colorado Springs, not that I’ll ever get back, but it’s my Colorado anchor. I’m also enjoying Brian’s Echo Beach song. It’s new to me. I don’t see my link here, so I’ll include it now. http://alwayswrite.blog/2022/08/31/wqw-33-dirty-jobs-and-august-in-the-rear-view-mirror/
Thanks, Marsha. Your link did come through on my notifications and I can see it on the post, so I suspect WordPress is not displaying things right. It’s really causing some issues with people commenting on self-hosted blogs lately.
I’ve had people having trouble commenting on mine, and it’s not self-hosted. So the problems is deeper than that, unfortunately.
Indeed!
