Valley City, North Dakota.
On a cloudy day, our friend Fred Mast, my wife Lynn, and I went to Chautauqua Park in Valley City to take some photos of the High Line Bridge, the giant railroad trestle that traverses the Sheyenne River Valley some 160 feet (49 m) above the Sheyenne River. When we got done taking images of the trestle, we decided to wait around to see if we could capture any freight trains that might be using the bridge. The short story is that our patience wasn’t rewarded and we didn’t get to see any trains that morning.
About the photo: While we were waiting, though, my drone was at the ready and Fred had his camera and lens combination set up to capture any train action. What else would two photographers do but take pictures of each other’s cameras? I launched the drone and flew it out over the edge of the river. Then I turned it around and pointed it at us. Fred got his camera ready and we tried a few shots with the drone at slightly different altitudes. The photo above, processed in Adobe Lightroom, then tweaked in Luminar AI, is the image I liked best.
I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone or even a dashcam, that’s acceptable as well. Yesterday I saw a video of a very small drone used by the Army for observation. The drone is only about 10 in long, very light, but costs $198,000! A soldier can easily carry it into combat and use it to spy on the enemy.
Wow! At that cost, I’d be afraid to fly it. >grin<
Seriously, I can see how devices like this will change the face of modern combat.

Drones are definitely a tool for those willing to support the extra baggage of learning about something that has virtually nothing to do with photography. They can be fun, but they are a bit of extra work.
You get a perspective that you can’t get any other way, though. Sometimes the quality of the picture isn’t great.
I keep wondering if we would enjoy a drone to follow us on our journeys at times, or if it would be more work. My husband just like to be in the moment, so if we got one it would have to be me. I’m not too tech savvy. I almost lost my poor grandsons over a canal, and then it landed on a neighbors roof. Although we got a good laugh, and a good run in, it was work. It would be so cool to be out in the middle of nowhere and fly by. Donna
PS. I always have a pic for your Sunday, but we always get back to late. I guess, I could just be ahead form the week prior. lol.
Having a drone is nice for those unique shots, but it comes with a lot more hassle. I got involved only because of my drone use for Civil Air Patrol. I was doing the training anyway.
