Cellpic Sunday – 1 July 2018

Albuquerque, New Mexico.

It was morning over the Rio Grande. The air was relatively still, though we couldn’t tell sailing above the terrain, the hot air balloon riding along with whatever wind pushed us along. One year ago today, our Albuquerque Steiner family reunion concluded its three-day celebration. When in the balloon capital of the world, it’s not a bad idea to get a bird’s eye view of the area. Regular readers may recall my collection of images from that experience. You will find it here. Though the trip was mostly captured with my DSLR, I always try a few images from my cell phone camera just to feature here on Cellpic Sunday.

About this photo: This shot features a view of the Rio Grande River as it flows near the city, the taller buildings of downtown can be seen on the horizon at the left side of the image. I used a non-standard crop to focus on the river itself, chopping away some extraneous stuff. As almost always, exposure was automatic, metered by the camera. Exposure f/1.7, 1/250 sec., ISO-50. In most browsers, you can click on an image to enlarge it for a better view.

  1. Lovely photo. I spent ten years in Albuquerque, so have seen the Rio Grande, and the balloon fiesta! I was in a balloon once, back in New Jersey – I used to crew for a pilot. It was so much fun learning how to inflate, fly, and recover a balloon.

    • This was my second balloon flight. I am sure I’ll do it again sometime. Balloons and gliders have one thing in common, the need for a ground crew to assist with launch and return to earth. Thanks for stopping by.
