Weekly Photo Challenge – Transformation

Buckeye, Arizona.

This week marks the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. Coincidentally, it also is our first full week back in our winter home in Arizona. Yesterday, our house was filled with family and too much to eat. As a result, I am a day late in posting this challenge response. We are asked to share images reflecting our thoughts on “Transformation.” While Jen H. focused on the transformation of autumn to winter in her image, there is another earth-oriented transformation that takes place twice daily, everywhere in the world, that is the transformation of day into night and back again into day. You can read the entire challenge post here.

Regular readers are familiar with my occasional sunset photos captured in a small section of desert near our home. A wide spot in the road, a quick pull off the highway and look both ways before crossing the street into the southern end of the White Tank Mountains. Off to my right, the foothills rise into the relatively low mountain range while looking west directly into a setting sun.

You don’t have to be looking to the west to enjoy the sunset views, however. About two blocks from our house you will find a public golf course. On our evening walks, we pass by the western edge of the course. If our timing is right, during that golden hour around sunset, an easterly view can be just as interesting as looking into the sun.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it, and welcome to that transition into the holiday season.

  1. What beautiful views and just a couple blocks away… The trees effectively block us from seeing any but the most vibrant sunsets, when the sky turns purple. Glad you had a happy Thanksgiving!
