Can you guess what agricultural crop we found growing in the Arizona desert? To find out for sure, scroll down to see a close-up photo of the crop we discovered. If there is no photo, click on the link to view the entire article.
For the first time this season, we went to the White Tank Mountain Regional Park for our Saturday hike. Since the Arizona Loop 303 highway was completed, we thought it would be a lot faster than traveling our usual route on Citrus Road. What we didn’t realize is that there is no exit to the park on Olive Avenue, so we ended up taking the exit one mile further north. On the way home, we went under the overpass on Olive Avenue to head to the next Loop 303 on-ramp to the south. This route was in new country for us, and we saw the above crop growing in the field. Having never before seen this crop in production, I was especially amazed to see it growing in the arid Arizona climate.
I had to stop and take a couple of photos to share with you. That’s right, it’s a commercial rose garden. I can safely say that I have never seen so many roses growing in one place in my life. Arizona never ceases to amaze me.

You would definitely think the heat and sun would keep them shriveled up!
Mt first thought was roses but the leaves look like a tropical plant
The harsh sun appears to wash out the colors in the photo compared to what I remember. They were pink roses, not red, so they are naturally “washed out” anyway. I did a double-take when I first saw them, disbelieving what I first saw.
You never promised me a rose garden, yet here it is! What a cool thing to see…
I always marvel at what I find growing commercially in the desert.
