An early morning visit to the Atlantic Ocean side of the Outer Banks Islands off North Carolina allowed me to capture this image of two surfers enjoying the relative solitude of the beach at sunrise. With this image, I begin my response to Ann-Christine’s “Morning” challenge. She writes, “We are looking forward to saying Good Morning to all of you! Be it your morning, any morning or some creative twist.” You can read her entire challenge post here.
As you can see by these opening images, my post is all about sunrise or the blue hour just before. The Red River at Fargo, North Dakota is one of my places to go that isn’t far from my house. This image was captured almost five years ago when the cloud pattern actually provided an “enhanced” sunburst as it rose above the horizon.
At sunrise, four years ago, I found myself at a Bismarck, North Dakota Fly-In. This vintage Cessna 195 fired my imagination of those days of barnstormers and stunt flyers. Actually a post-WW-II aircraft, this model was produced from 1947 to 1954.
Moving northeast from Bismarck to the Turtle River State Park in northeast North Dakota, the clouds took on pastel hues as the blue hour transitioned into the golden hour on a cool September morning.
I conclude this challenge response with an image from 2013. Lynn and I were up early that morning as our cruise ship neared the entrance to the Panama Canal. There were many ships sitting at anchor near the entrance locks, all awaiting their scheduled appointment to transition the canal. The transition takes a cruise ship some 8 or more hours to completely transit the canal. That’s my challenge response for this week. I hope you all have a great morning. Please stay safe in these troubled times.

Stunning airplane pic John and I love the surfers too.
Thank you! Always enjoy the morning… when I get up early enough to be outside, anyway! 😀
Wow! Let me add my praise for the sunburst/Cessna photograph.
Thank you, my friend!
Beautiful images, all of them, John, but that Cessna with the sunny halo is the winner for me.
Thank you! I take no credit for the beauty of that classic aircraft.
You have some nice image here. I really like the plane.
Enjoy your morning images, John. I love that Cessna photo capture, too!
Good morning! Love these images!
Good morning! Thank you!!!
Quite a world tour this morning John. The airplane photo is amazing. And I envy your trip thru the canal. Heard it’s thrilling
Thanks! A trip through the canal was one of my greatest life experiences. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Such gorgeous morning photos. Was a pleasure to view them 😀
Thanks! Coming from you, that’s high praise!
Nice action shut of the surfers
Thanks. I captured several that morning. This one was the best of the bunch.
yeah – better take a few so some actually is fully in focus.
True that!
Wow, love the Cessna image – and the surfers!
Thank you! This was a fun challenge for me to find images that I hadn’t shared (much) before. 😀
♥
Breathtaking photos, John. The sunrise at a Bismarck, North Dakota Fly-In is amazing!
It was a beautiful morning and that aircraft was in the right place and I was there at the right time… for a change I wasn’t still in bed sleeping. 😀
It’s the best way to get wonderful captures, John. 🙂
Wow. Great photos. Love the greens in the waves and the sun behind the airplane. Excellent.
That low morning sun shining through the waves made a striking coloration. I might have “enhanced” it a bit in post. >grin<
Enjoyed seeing your pictures, John! Especially like the one of the Cessna.
Thank you! It is a classic beauty!
