Cellpic Sunday – 22 January 2017

Mitchell, South Dakota.

In the late 1800’s, grain palaces dotted the great plains states. Farmers used various grains to showcase their harvest each year. By the turn of the 20th century, most of the palaces were gone. Only one still remains in Mitchell, South Dakota. Every year, the old grains are stripped from the walls and new designs adorn the exterior of the building. The building is a popular venue for community events, concerts and sports and the Corn Palace Festival celebrates the historic venue.
