A few days ago, one of our communications experts in Civil Air Patrol (CAP), traveled to the northeastern part of the state to determine why one of our remote repeaters appeared to be inoperable. After finding a tripped breaker, possibly due to a recent lightning storm, and some cleanup, the machine was returned to operation. His report on the repair reminded me of a similar trip I made to another of our remote repeater sites a couple of years ago.
North Dakota is often considered a flat state, but there are high points. Hawk’s Nest is one of those. This view from the top of the hill does show there is some elevation. Just off to my left is the communications tower where the CAP antenna is mounted high above the landscape. In a small shack, our repeater underwent some testing. While the experts were tending to the gear, I was busy surveying the landscape with my cell phone camera.
About the photo: Looking north from this peak near the center of the state, my Samsung S7 camera captured this image at f/1.7; 1/6400 sec.; ISO-50. The rule for Cellpic Sunday is simple, the image must be captured on a mobile device. As is my recent practice, I’m sharing higher resolution images than previous. In most browsers, you can click on the image to view it enlarged and in greater detail.

It has a golden quality to it. Nice. Cheers
Nice pic! A great reminder of the plains states and the view when driven through. Recently I was trying to explain this view to someone who was thinking of SD when talking about ND…
Just call it the Dakota Territory. 🙂
