This week, Tina Schell asks us to see double. She writes, “Double trouble, double-time, two’s company, take two ….  the world is filled with references to twosomes. This week, let’s double our pleasure and focus on things that come in twos.” You can read Tina’s entire challenge post here. Her challenge brought back the memory of a cruise in the Eastern Caribbean. It was getting close to time to being back on the ship after our visit to the British Island of Grand Turk. Our Carnival Magic ship was docked next to the Azura, a cruiser from the P&O Line. The P&O lineage of the Azura goes back to 1837 but today P&O is part of the Carnival corporate umbrella.

On the Pacific Coast at La Jolla Cove near San Diego, I found these two pelicans, one a mirror image of the other pruning along the shore. It doesn’t take much imagination to think that this might be one pelican standing right in front of a mirror.

In July 2019, I had the pleasure of capturing the USAF Thunderbirds in flight during their demonstration at an air show in Fargo, North Dakota. At the speed of two F-16 fighter jets approaching each other, you can only see double for a brief moment. If you’re camera is fast enough at capturing images and you follow one of the aircraft, you might just catch that moment when you can see double to share in a challenge post.

My first trip to Costa Rica in 2013 yielded but one fuzzy image of a pair of macaws in the wild at the very far reaches of my zoom lens. In 2019, our second cruise brought us to a protected area and wildlife refuge. There we found many wild macaws of different varieties hanging around and keeping company with the many caged birds that are unable to survive in the wild. This pair of scarlet macaws spent much of the time we were in the park enjoying the shade of the tree canopy above.

One more double image of parrots, this time a pair of blue and gold macaws rested on a branch at the Wildlife World Zoo in Litchfield Park, Arizona is near our winter home on the western edges of the Phoenix metropolitan area.
