Weekly Photo Challenge – Broken

Buckeye, Arizona

In this week’s photo challenge, Cheri Lucas Rowlands asks us to share something broken. “… an old window, a vintage sign, a toy never fixed. Or go deeper…” You can read the entire challenge post here. I often like to put a slight twist on the challenge…so my gallery this week focuses on a broken sky. Meteorologists define the amount of clouds in the sky by percentage and give them names. The four most commonly used cloud cover terms are Clear, Scattered, Broken and Overcast. By definition a broken sky is covered 50-90% by clouds. All of the images in this gallery feature a broken sky.

My challenge entry this week is late. We just concluded hosting a three-day family reunion here in Buckeye and we are looking forward to heading back to our home in Fargo, North Dakota. For those of you in the United States, have a safe and reflective Memorial Day holiday. Tomorrow, our weekly Travel Tuesday will arrive on schedule.

The final image in the gallery was taken at South Mountain in Phoenix, looking west toward Buckeye. All of the images were taken either just before or just after sunset.
