Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, New Mexico.
It was a 45-minute drive in rush hour traffic. We had reservations at the Campo Restaurant, and we made our reservation time with one minute to spare. We were seated almost immediately and received prompt attention from the wait staff, our waiter is a young man with a sense of humor and an interesting personality. I am remiss in not remembering his name.
I don’t normally do restaurant reviews, but on this Cellpic Sunday, I’m making an exception… partly because of the image I captured. My sister ordered a cocktail and it was delivered with the largest ice cube we’ve ever seen. The waiter called it a MegaCube. I can tell you that you are unlikely to have a warm, watered-down drink if it has a MegaCube keeping it cold. When we got home, I discovered that a 9-cube tray that makes these giant ice cubes can be ordered online.
We all ordered their ribeye steak, a bit pricey but worth every cent. It comes with baby potatoes and mushrooms as side dishes. It would have been a sacrilege to put anything like A-1 or any other steak sauce on this carefully prepared and perfectly spiced steak. (No, I didn’t take any photos of the main course.) We all ordered a variety of desserts, and I heard no complaints from any of us.
About the photo: Captured with my Samsung S20U, I asked my sister to lift that giant cube out of her drink with a fork so I could take a photo of it. As you can see, it can barely fit inside the cocktail glass.
I used automatic exposure settings and ran the image through Adobe Lightroom for final processing. If you click on the image, you can pixel peep at it in 2K HD.
I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone or even a dashcam, that’s acceptable as well. The second rule is to link your challenge-response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment.

Never heard of Megacube.
Thanks for the information.
Love the click.
colourful and shiny!
It is new to me as well. I’m tempted to order a tray to have them for our family reunion in June.
Thank you John.
Let me try to order

That is one sharp photo. Megacube sounds cool, I might have a look online for it.
Here is mine:

That megacube is megatransparent. I like the view through the ice of the tines dipping into the drink. Fabulously sharp.
The cube is super clear. I bet the machine that makes them is expensive. 🙂
That is one huge hunk of ice.
Great photo 🙂
It is, indeed!

That is indeed one big kahuna ice cube, John! My daughter has some trays like that (come in a silicone tray. Years ago there was a backlash about showing suggestive and subliminal messages in ice cubes that were photographed in cocktails in magazines. Do you remember that? It was a big deal in San Diego in the early 70s and had all us kids pouring over magazine ads to look for devils and other weird things emerging from ice cubes, LOL. Here is my Cellpic Sunday post today: https://secondwindleisure.com/2022/05/01/sunday-stills-emerging-from/
Interesting! I don’t recall the subliminal ice cube messages. I ordered a couple of trays and figured there might be a way to put something in the center of the cube before it freezes, maybe a cherry or an olive?
It must have been a SoCal thing, LOL! Yes, I think you can freeze fruit or olives into the cubes–you will have to show us your efforts 🙂
Love this image, John! Well done.
Thanks, Amy!
I love that shot, John, exactly the sort of photos I love to take. I finally remembered Cellpic Sunday (by seeing your post in my Reader) and as both my photos fit this week, I’m linking up. Thanks for hosting.

Wow, I never heard of megacube as well. Sounds something like out of Transformers.. 😊 Cool image.
Thanks! Just today I ordered a tray that makes them, just for fun. 🙂
Lemonade on mega ice sounds mighty nice. Cool image.

That is such a cool picture. The fork almost looks like there is some kind of a statue or metal toy inside the cube – kind of like a snow globe without the snow. We must be on the same track. I had my first drink with a big ice cube in it. I just didn’t take a picture. 🙂
Apparently. As I noted, I’ve never even seen one of these before. 🙂
That was as cool if a picture as my wacky self-portrait!
