New York, New York.
In mid-September 2022, we set sail for the second time on the Carnival Magic. On this trip, we would head north to stops in Canada. We departed New York City’s cruise terminal at the western end of Manhattan Island on the Hudson River. As we maneuvered away from our berth, a New York City Police helicopter flew by a couple of times. I was able to capture a cellphone image from our balcony on one of the passes. As we turned to the south toward the Atlantic Ocean, they accompanied us for a short distance and then peeled off in the opposite direction.
About the photo: Captured with my Samsung S20U, this 108 MP photo was cropped to help remove some excess skyline and concentrate more on the helicopter. I was lucky to not have sunrays cover the helicopter. I reduced the contrast and straightened the image in Lightroom then sent it off to Luminar Neo to remove the strong blue color cast from the buildings. I used Enhance AI to improve the tone and bring a little more definition to the clouds. For a better look at the image in 2K HD, click on the image to view it from my Flickr site.
I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone or even a dashcam, that’s acceptable as well. The second rule is to link your challenge response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment.

I wonder who they were after?
I thought that at first, but their deliberate circling of the cruise ship convinced me otherwise… or, just maybe, they were looking for me. I was hiding behind my cellphone pretending to take photos. >grin<
👍😂

I like it a lot, John. Different from your landscapes but still really good.
Here is mine:
Now that I am home working on my desktop computer instead of my laptop, I can see changes that I should have considered during post processing. Don’t be surprised if a future post features an updated image. >grin<
🙂
Beautiful capture.
Love the copter, the blue sky and cloud arrangement.
The helicopter is exactly inside the triangle (I guess these lines are from the glass reflection)
Thanks, Philo! Those lines are solar rays. I was outside when I took the image. I couldn’t see the rays in the viewfinder. I was very lucky that one of them didn’t cut directly across the helicopter.
Thank you John for this information.
A lovely angle too!
Wow! Pretty good shooting against the sun.

I love the angle of the helicopter against the tall buildings of NYC. Seems like your cruise ship’s escort from my POV, too, is a mystery. Great shot, John, I’m sure you are happy to be home. Here is mine this week and thanks for already commenting https://secondwindleisure.com/2022/10/30/sunday-stills-the-mysterious-is-a-beautiful-thing/
Here’s mine John, thanks

Great shot, John 👏 I wonder if they were looking for a landing spot onboard to join the cruise 😂 Here’s mine: https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2022/10/31/tree-shadow-cellpic-sunday/
There is a helicopter pad on the front of the ship just behind the bow, but I suppose just because there wasn’t room for two ‘copters, they decided to go elsewhere. >grin<

Wow! I’ve never had that detailed picture of an aerial object. Your phone is cool to fit in 108 megapixels!
And my phone is now three-year-old technology. The ability to crop heavily and still have a decent pixel count is one of this camera’s big advantages that compensates some for the lack of optical zoom.
I think he had his eye on you John! Finally satisfied that you were on the up and up, he flew away onto another assignment. 🙂
That’s it!! 🙂
