Glendale, Arizona.
Those auto auctions sell much more than automobiles. Barrett-Jackson calls their other collections “Automobilia”. Mecum has a category for classic signage, mostly automobile-related, called Road Art. One interesting sign I noticed featured a traffic light/street sign mentioning Times Square at 46th and Broadway.
The tag with lot number indicated that the sign was seen by millions as it hung in Times Squares in the 1970s. Maxies was a company that sold monogrammed t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other souvenirs. The sign is single-sided, so it hung flat on the front of a building rather than perpendicular. Maxie’s Hats sold at the auction for $8,260.
About the photo: The image found its way to my Samsung S20U cellphone, and from there, I uploaded it to my desktop computer for processing.
I finally broke down and got rid of my Adobe Lightroom 6, the last version that people could “own.” I subscribed to the Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop subscription plan so I’ve been learning the new (to me) features of subscription Lightroom. I’ve still been using Luminar Neo, but for this image, I stuck strictly with Lightroom for processing.
Maybe someday, I’ll download Photoshop and start using it. >grin< If you click on the image above, you can pixel peep in 2K HD via my Flickr site.
I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone or even a dashcam, that’s acceptable as well. The second rule is to link your challenge-response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment.

Interesting to note that the sign is a single sided one.
Any particular reason?
Colourful click John.
What made you to ditch lightroom 6.4?
Instead of mounting perpendicular to the building, the sign was mounted flat on the building’s face. Seems it would be more effective as a double-sided perpendicular mount, but maybe the store was lacking funds?
Possible
Regarding Lightroom 6, I saw a video on masking and some of the other new tools in the program that I thought would be useful. I also decided that at some point, I’m ready to dive back into Photoshop. I still haven’t downloaded Photoshop, but I expect to do that soon.
Thank you John.
All the best with your LR classic adventure!
Photoshop is another level!

As soon as I saw your title this idea came into my head
Impressive cell photo of Maxie’s Hats sign!
Thanks. I really enjoy looking at vintage signs sold at auto auctions. They aren’t always about automotive accessories. 🙂

You captured the light in this quite well, John! I played with florals this week and my trust mobile caught many a great shot! https://secondwindleisure.com/2022/04/24/sunday-stills-fabulous-seasonal-florals/
Ah, spring… Sometimes North Dakota goes right from winter to summer with nothing in between. 🙂
Sounds like how we experienced Sacramento for years.

John, Beautiful shot that shows the colours and details of Maxie’s Hats sign so clearly. I took pictures of painted ladies and historic buildings with my cellphone:
Your colorful painted ladies are certainly beautiful!
I love neon and I loved this post John!
Thanks, Ann. It’s on my list to visit the vintage neon signs on display in the Las Vegas Neon Museum.
Oh great, now I want to go to Vegas. I truly don’t like it there since I don’t gamble.
Many of the signs on Fremont Street downtown are vintage from the early days of gambling in Vegas as well. It’s a fun trip even for non-gamblers.
😊
That is a bright sign.
This one is fun, John! Nice cellpic.
Thanks. I really enjoy the magic of neon signs.
I think thats what I love most about those car shows. The other stuff .
They certainly are an enhancement to the myriad of vehicles.

That’s not core car, but very colourful, in fact and history.
