South Mountain’s Summit Road finally reopened after a heavy rain washed it out toward the top. This week we made a visit to Dobbins Lookout to capture the sunset. The lookout is always popular, but especially around sunset, the parking lot fills up and the extra cars end up parking along the road. This evening’s sunset wasn’t the spectacular sky we can get when the sky is more partly cloudy.
The two photos, both taken at 5:53 PM, only about 20 seconds apart according to the image metadata, compare the quality of a cellphone image when processed in a good photo editor like Snapseed on an iPad compares to a 3-image HDR taken with a Nikon DSLR using a 3-image exposure and processed to HDR via Adobe Lightroom. Unfortunately, I didn’t use the same zoom setting so the Nikon image below isn’t as wide a view as the cellphone pic. I will leave it to you, my friends, to determine which you prefer.

I often dream of travel, all of the places around the world I would go ‘if only’… but your pictures remind me that I don’t necessarily have to travel across an ocean to find beautiful places. Thanks for sharing! (Oh, and I prefer the bottom photo, in case you were wondering!)
Now that I am retired, I am doing some travelling, but I enjoy taking photos near where we live as well. It’s always an irony that people don’t know what’s going on in their own area and travel to other places to see stuff that those locals ignore. 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to comment.
