Albuquerque, New Mexico.
We were in Albuquerque for about a week in June for a family reunion. One evening, the eastern sky lit up as the sun completed its trek across the desert sky in New Mexico. Hoping I’d get a chance to get in position on the road a bit east of my sister’s home, I started the uphill trek toward the Sandia Mountains.
The neighborhood is not even a mile from the bases of those mountains, bathed in shades of purple and orange for but a few moments that evening. I knew I wouldn’t have much time to capture the changing light.
About the photo: Captured on my Samsung S20U, I struggled a bit to find a composition I liked given that I was in the middle of a residential area, and by the time I’d gotten into the car and found a suitable setting for the foreground, the magic would be gone, shrouded in the approaching twilight.
Instead, I ran up the hill toward the mountains, stopping several times to ultimately capture several compositions. I loaded them into Lightroom and decided there was only one that was really worth sharing. After basic edits, I loaded the image into Luminar Neo for final processing. You can bet that this image will find its way to my skies folder for use in other image backdrops. To view the image on a black backdrop, click on it to view it in 2K HD on my Flickr site.
I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone or even a dashcam, that’s acceptable as well. The second rule is to link your challenge response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment.

Gorgeous sky, I can absolutely see how you’ll be able to make use of it in the future too!
I will have to keep it in mind as a possibility. That’s probably the hardest part for this old guy. >grin<
That’s a superb shot!
Thanks, Hien! Sitting in my sister’s back yard, I saw the colors in the sky changing. I was in the right place at the right time, a requirement for sunsets and sunrises. >grin<

Fabulous shot and the colors, wow! Your chasing up the mountain was worth it, John. The colors or the image fit my theme as well. Here is mine this week: https://secondwindleisure.com/2022/10/09/sunday-stills-monthly-color-challenge-lava-and-memories-of-a-little-brown-dog/
Thanks, Terri. Sometimes we get lucky.
That is one dramatic sunset, John 😃
Albuquerque has no limit on the number of fabulous sunsets, especially when you consider that many, like this one, don’t even include the sun in the image.
What a glorious sunset!
It was truly a magical sight!
Love that purple!
I don’t know what’s a good way of avoiding those ads from popping up here. Let’s see if this works: https://anotherglobaleater.wordpress.com/2022/10/05/midweek-mobile-8/
If you mean the ads in your posts, they are removed if you purchase a plan from WordPress.
I bought their Personal Plan when I started to run out of photo storage space. I didn’t realize it then, but that basic plan also removes the ads that readers see.
Yes, apart from that …

John, I grew up in Albuquerque. I don’t know if any of your family told you, but the word Sandia means watermelon. Those mountains are named for the colors they show during sunsets. Beautiful. Well snapped! ~Ed.
Thanks. I didn’t know that. Interesting!
