Cellpic Sunday – Independence Day

Pyrotechnics Guild International Fireworks Program

West Fargo, North Dakota.

The three-day weekend is upon us. On this Independence Day eve, I wish all of my U.S. followers a safe and happy Independence Day. The challenges are many and the white noise of social media clouds the issues we face. Our nation has faced many serious challenges since its inception some 246 years ago. I have no doubt that the grand experiment in democracy will continue.

The Pyrotechnics Guild International is an organization that supports pyrotechnics hobbyists and professionals in the pyrotechnics (fireworks) industry. Their annual convention is held each August in different cities across the country. The image above was from one of their demonstration events at the 2017 convention in West Fargo, North Dakota. This year, the convention will be held on July 30-August 5, 2022 in Newton, Iowa. Their programs are open to the public and fascinating to watch.

About the photo: The image was captured on a Samsung Galaxy S7 using automatic settings. It was imported into Adobe Lightroom and then into Luminar 2018 for final tweaks. Click on the image to view it in full resolution on my Flickr site.

I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone or even a dashcam, that’s acceptable as well. The second rule is to link your challenge response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment.

  1. That’s come out well! Phone photos of fireworks hasn’t worked for me in the past. But 3-4 years ago is centuries ago measured in phone years, and I must try that again when I get a new phone.

Until then I continue to photograph food

    All ready

  2. Perfect shot for this Independence Day weekend, John. A number of places in our area are cancelling fireworks displays because of the drought and possibility of starting a fire. I understand, but I do love fireworks. There’s always online or TV viewing, though. Cheers to the weekend and the Fourth.

  3. Using the burst mode in latest smartphones and some neat DSLRs, the fireworks photography turns out amazing. I’ve tried it just once using my 2019 model smartphone but from much distance.
    Yours is wonderful, John 🙂
