Pike’s Peak stands over 14,000 feet above sea level, however it’s peak is only about 8,000 feet above the surrounding landscape. If you are traveling south along I-25, you can get a great view of the famous mountain at the Ackerman Overlook. You will find the scenic viewpoint, newly remodeled, just south of Interquest Expressway, exit 153.

In the foreground, you will see the United States Air Force Academy Airfield. The academy is an officer candidate training college. The college averages about 4,000 students annually. Graduates receive a commission as second lieutenant in the US Air Force.
